What is counseling or teletherapy?
Teletherapy services are counseling or mental health services provided remotely through secure technology such as video sessions, phone calls, or online platforms. Teletherapy allows clients to meet with a licensed mental health professional from the comfort and privacy of their own home or another convenient location.Teletherapy offers many of the same benefits as in-person counseling, including emotional support, coping strategies, skill-building, and collaborative treatment planning. Sessions may address concerns such as anxiety, depression, stress, grief, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, caregiver fatigue, and personal growth.
Common features of teletherapy services include:
Secure video counseling sessions using HIPAA-compliant platforms designed to protect confidentiality and privacy
Flexible scheduling options that may make it easier to attend sessions consistently
Convenient access to care for individuals with busy schedules, transportation barriers, caregiving responsibilities, health concerns, or those living in rural areas
Comfort and familiarity of participating in therapy from a personal environment
Continuity of support during travel, illness, weather disruptions, or life transitions
Teletherapy can be effective for individuals, couples, families, and sometimes groups, depending on the provider and client needs. Research has shown that teletherapy can be as effective as in-person therapy for many mental health concerns when clients feel safe, engaged, and connected with their therapist.
